Trichology CONSULTATION
A full case history is taken, including medical history and hair care practices. The hair and scalp are thoroughly examined with the addition of a trichoscope to fully assess the health of the hair and scalp. Samples are taken if required for microscopic examination. Tests can then be arranged to confirm or complete the diagnosis, with any possible referrals.
Regarding blood tests. After the initial consultation we will liaise with either your GP or relevant specialist if the problem is likely due to medical issues or requires further investigation.
In some cases NHS GP’s can refuse to perform blood tests as they do not see the problem as being serious enough. Although we will argue to the contrary, the doctor has the final say, and we may have to perform blood tests privately, to get the information we require to confirm the diagnosis.
Not all the conditions a trichologist will see will be covered by the NHS, but we will always endeavour to work closely with the relevant specialists or GP at all times. Where necessary referrals can be made directly to a private dermatologist when speed is of the essence for treatment.
A shorter follow up appointment is beneficial so I can check my recommendations for progress etc.
